The speculation about The Game Awards was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously permissive, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
