PSG Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille fired two times late to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
